DIY Floral Heart Wreath
While I was nesting, waiting for baby to come, I decided to try my hand at crafting. Although I like the 'idea' of crafting, a few years ago while planning my wedding, I quickly realized I do not enjoy the actual crafting part. I don't have the patience for such things; I tend to be a bit rammy. Anyways, with that said, this floral wreath was simple enough for even me. That means you can easily do it too!
I got the idea for this craft from Pinterest (where else?), where I saw floral monograms in nurserys. I thought they were beautiful and needed to create my own. However, I had time on my hands to craft before baby was born and my husband and I weren't 100% certain what letter baby's name was going to start with. So I opted for a heart instead
Step One: Make a trip to Michael's. Gather your supplies. Michael's had a variety of cut out shapes & letters available in different sizes. You will also need to purchase flowers to fill your shape/letter. I picked mostly white and light pink peonies and roses. I would suggest getting more flowers than you think you will need, as the flowers seem to shrink once they are secured. I have also seen faux flowers at Dollarama, if you are trying to keep this craft low budget. You will also need glue of some kind. I used hot glue. Finally, you will need some heavy duty scissors or wire cutters.
Step Two: Cut the stems off of the fake flowers. This takes some muscle. And I may or may not have summoned my husband to assist me with this part. Cut as close to the flower as possible, while making sure to keep any greenery attached.
Ta-Da! Dispose of the stems (I can't think of any way to reuse them?). Clear your workspace.
Step Three: Arrange the flowers in your shape. This is an important step, so don't skip it! Whether you want the flowers completely random or in a pattern, it is best to sort this out before you start gluing. I arranged mine so the colors and sizes of flowers alternated somewhat.
Step Four: Glue the flowers down. I found it worked best to apply glue to both the flower and the base I was attaching it to. After gluing each flower down, I held it in place for about 20 seconds to allow the glue to dry.
Step Five: Add in greenery and leaves, if you so choose.
And that's it, we are done! Wasn't that easy?! Now just hang your wreath on your wall or door and enjoy! It is definitely a conversation piece. Stay tuned to see this lovely wreath in an upcoming post about my nursery.
