Very Veganuary
If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s shopping. I thoroughly enjoy shopping both in-store and online, for almost everything. Of course, I like shopping for clothes, but I find it just as fun to search for beauty products, household items, and even groceries. I truly look forward to browsing the aisles, comparing products, and trying new items. The whole process of shopping brings me joy and always has. In fact, I have applied to be a secret shopper several times since I was in high school. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive a callback but I’m not ready to give up on my dream just yet. I’ve got my fingers crossed it will still happen one day.
I was super excited to partner with London Drugs to spotlight “Veganuary,” happening all month long! We’ve teamed up to highlight London Drugs diverse lineup of vegan-friendly foods, health, wellness, beauty, and cleaning products that support a health-conscious lifestyle. Even though I have been an avid London Drugs shopper for years, I was surprised to discover just how large their selection of health forward products is. I headed to my local neighborhood London Drugs location to check out all that Veganuary has to offer and I’m pleased to bring you my top picks.
Naturally, my first stop in store was right to the beauty, skincare, and body care products. I could spend hours wandering down these aisles… in fact, I have! I am always on the hunt for a good natural deodorant and the brand that comes highly recommended is Native. Native natural deodorants are available in five amazing scents, but my top two favourites are Vanilla + Coconut and Lavender + Rose. Aside from the on-point smell, you can also feel good about applying Native deodorant to your body because they are aluminum and paraben free.
While we are on the topic of products with rave reviews, I had wanted to try Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 Pure-Castile Liquid Soap for the past year, so I took this opportunity to finally scoop some up! This soap is so versatile; it has 18 different uses, including face, body, food, dishes, laundry, mopping… the list goes on! It’s available in a range of scents. I picked up Peppermint but was also drawn to the Lavender and Citrus. So far I’ve only tried the soap for hands and body (loved it), but am eager to put it to use around the house as well.
Even more than I love shopping for myself, I love shopping for other people, especially my kids. Buying things for them, whether big or small, just brings me joy. It helps that they even get excited if I bring home a new snack or lotion for them to try. London Drugs has no shortage of baby and kid-friendly products included in Veganuary, featuring some of our favourite brands, including The Honest Company. I stocked up on their Everyday Gentle Conditioning Detangler in Sweet Orange Vanilla. I spray it in both of our kid’s hair on a daily basis. It helps comb through their tangles so they complain less about getting their hair brushed, and It also makes their hair soft and smooth. The spray contains ingredients safe for little ones, including shea butter, argan oil, and jojoba. Plus, the detangler leaves their hair smelling sweet and fresh. I also picked up some new Hello Fluoride Free Natural Toothpaste in the Watermelon flavor for the kids and I’m excited to share that it was the first toothpaste our daughter actually liked and didn’t complain about! So, if you have a little one who is picky about flavours, definitely give it a try. It contains gentle ingredients like aloe vera, which is perfect for sensitive teeth and gums.
Next, it was over to the cleaning products, which are oddly satisfying to peruse. We go through a lot of bottles of cleaning spray because my nightly ritual always involves wiping down all counter tops and surfaces with a spray cleaner, and bonus points if it’s natural! I especially look for natural cleaners to use in areas that we cook and eat on, like the kitchen! I love that the Attitude All-Purpose Cleaner is plant and mineral-based and is made with natural fragrance, instead of harsh chemicals. I picked up the Thyme & Citrus scent. I always look for more natural scents rather than strong, harsh chemical smells. The key with any cleaning product, but especially natural products, is to ensure that they actually do their job and clean effectively. Attitude lives up to this and disinfects 99.9% of household bacteria and germs. Plus, you can’t beat the price!
While we are on the topic of nighttime routines, I’ve been making an effort to throw one load of laundry in each night after dinner. It just makes laundry seem more manageable. Since our son Luca has extremely sensitive skin, eczema, and allergies, we have always had to be careful when choosing products that he comes in contact with, including laundry detergent. Eco Max Hypoallergenic Laundry Detergent has been a safe choice for our whole family. It’s all natural, plant-based, and gentle enough for babies.
Finally, I finished off my trip to London Drugs by stopping by the food and snack aisles. Let me tell you, these sections are like hidden gems. They have so many good, healthy, and yummy options to eat and drink. Lately, I have been ending my nights with a cup of hot tea. It just feels right on cold January evenings. If I’m in need of a good night’s sleep (when am I not?), I go with Yogi Restful Sleep Tea and if I’m feeling under the weather, I like Yogi Lemon Ginger Tea. If it’s a case of the later, then I also have a few Gem Gem Ginger Candies to keep me feeling my best. They are all natural and made with real ginger, which I find always helps with fighting off colds. It helps that they are delicious as well.
If you have a sweet tooth like me, LD has you covered. They carry the lineup of Smart Sweets, which are always a staple in our home, as well as Panda Natural Licorice. I don’t mind giving these to our kids for a treat as they are made with natural ingredients and no artificial flavours or colours. If you’re more of a chocolate lover than a candy consumer (not that you can’t be both), you must try one of the unique Zazubean Chocolate Bar flavours. They are made with 100% organic ingredients, are soy, gluten, and GMO-free, and are ethically sourced.
